In 2022 Port KC announced the development of the first stadium built for the purpose of housing a women’s professional sports team. The KC Current have taken the sports scene by storm and are one of the hottest teams in women’s soccer. The KC Current Stadium will be the first of its kind and will be a catalyst for Economic Development in the Port. The Port has parceled out 10 pieces of property and plan to construct a mixed use development that will complement the stadium.

In June 2023 Parking Company of America and the Cordish Companies were selected as co-developers on the Parcel 9 site. The PCA/Cordish team submitted a plan to develop a state of the art 2,700 space parking facility to support the stadium, 100,000 sf of Class A Office, and 300 apartment units. This project has a unique tri party structure between PCA, Port KC, and the City of Kansas City. Multiple development incentives and a public backstop were used to secure the financing, and construction is expected to begin in March 2024.
